There is shakuhachi as a Zen instrument,
and there is shakuhachi for entertainment.
The Zen instrument shakuhachi is emptiness.
The shakuhachi for entertainment is form.
If you are concerned with form,
then you must not break the traditional rules.
But if you concentrate on emptiness,
then you should not be attached to the old ways.
